The project stems from the belief that architecture and landscape design are two inseparable parts of the same action.
The subject of the competition, a multi-story parking lot, was intended not only as an endowment of an urban infrastructure, but as a true landscape intervention by combining nature and artifice while taking into account the delicate landscape context.
A park-like cover in which the clarity of contemporary architecture and the calmness of vegetation, with the extraordinary natural landscape of the sky and mountains in the background, create a dreamy composition of sinuous lines, floating islands of green.
The intervention does not construct a building but plans a series of public gardens covering the parking lot that reinterpret the original landscape using terraces of graminaceous and perennial erabceae;a “belvedere” public plaza at the level of via De Gasperi that slopes eastward through a system of pedestrian and bicycle paths that connect the green terraces and respect the PRG and Cles 2016 masterplan forecasts.
The driveway system of entrances and exits is through the existing Hospital parking lot, taking into account the PRG road forecast (via Trento- Polo Ospedaliero) and excluding new vehicular connections directly from Viale De Gasperi.
A project issue of particular importance concerns pedestrian and bicycle connections; the planned trail system connects to the planned bicycle and pedestrian path on De Gasperi Avenue and takes into consideration the possible construction of the Moie footbridge planned to safeguard the Agricultural Park by reconnecting with it to the east of the area.
The project resolves the existing elevation jump between De Gasperi Avenue and the agricultural area to the east, limiting the presence and impact of the new built volume. The roof of the parking lot will be used mainly for public greenery, and the part lying on De Gasperi Avenue will be a large square, characterized by a staircase and the planned service structure. The cavea will be able to host, especially in good weather, theatrical performances, outdoor cinema, small concerts.
At street level will come out the volumetric element intended for the landings of the elevator and the staircase body, with the “control rooms” (one active to supervise the parking lot, the second only with plant predisposition); on the right, towards the staircase, a bar/cafeteria and on the left a permanent farmers' market. The roof of this structure will be sloping and accessible from via De Gasperi: an additional panoramic terrace on the mountains. The structure made of wood will have corten steel and glass finishes.
The staircase, plaza and service structure, excluding the volume of vertical connections, will be built in a second phase.
