Suspended Reflections, Piazza Maria Carta, Poggio dei Pini, Cagliari, Italy, Commission On going
In the heart of Poggio dei Pini, the square becomes once again the voice of the landscape and the mirror of its community.
The redevelopment of Piazza Maria Carta aims to restore centrality and meaning to this public space, transforming it into a place of encounter, contemplation, and shared identity. Water becomes the generating element: a thin reflective surface that mirrors the sky, the pine trees, and the people, evoking the deep memory of Sardinian territory and the enduring bond between community and nature.
Alongside the reflective plane, a “suspended mist” introduces an atmospheric and sensory dimension — a light cloud that appears and dissolves, shaped by wind, light, and human presence. The square becomes a living landscape, constantly changing, immersive, and open to interpretation.
Essential materials — granite, stone, wood, and steel — integrate with Mediterranean vegetation, while existing seating elements are regenerated, creating a dialogue between memory and contemporaneity.
Not simply a square, but a space that breathes with the landscape: discreet, rooted, and poetic. A place where the community can recognize itself, reconnect, and reflect.
